A large brawl involving 100 youths has disrupted the 50th-anniversary celebrations of one of Queensland’s largest multicultural festivals.
Police were called to the Paniyiri Greek Festival in South Brisbane’s Musgrave Park just before 9pm on Saturday following reports of a large disturbance involving approximately 100 youths near Edmondstone Street.
The youths were allegedly assaulting attendees of the festival.
Police and security were able to disperse the crowd, and a small number of people were assessed for minor injuries by first aid crews.
Police said no formal complaints or arrests had been made following the incident.
Paniyiri is an annual event celebrating Greek culture, held in the inner-city park over two days.
More than 50,000 people were expected to attend this year’s event, which celebrates 50 years of the Brisbane festival.
