Rebecca Gayheart stepped out for the first time following husband Eric Dane’s ALS diagnosis.
The 53-year-old actress appeared to be in good spirits as she posed for photos on Monday, April 14, while out and about in Los Angeles. Gayheart kept it casual in a white T-shirt that read “Loving,” in black text paired with jeans and a pair of dark red mules. She smiled for photographers while getting out of her car, wearing a pair of red glasses.
This marked Gayheart’s first public outing since Dane, 52, announced on Thursday, April 10, that he revealed details about his health journey.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” the Grey’s Anatomy alum shared in a statement with People. “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Hours prior, news broke that Gayheart had filed to dismiss her divorce from Dane. They had been separated for seven years.
Dane and Gayheart — who share daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13 — married in 2004, and she filed for divorce in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. The duo never went through with their split.
“We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great coparents,” Gayheart said of Dane during an interview with E! News on Wednesday, April 9. “We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well.”
She added, “I think it’s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It’s just a season. It wasn’t a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it.”
Gayheart has yet to release a statement regarding her husband’s illness but has subtly acknowledged the diagnosis in several Instagram posts.
She shared a message about “the real luxuries in life” on Friday, April 11.
“Time, health, a quiet mind, slow mornings, ability to travel, rest without guilt, a good night’s sleep,” the message read. “Calm and ‘boring’ days, meaningful conversations, home-cooked meals, people you love, people who love you back.”
The following day, she shared a second inspirational message.
“Life isn’t a matter of milestones, but of moments,” Gayheart shared, which was a quote attributed to Rose Kennedy.
