Richard Gere revealed he has no regrets about moving to his wife Alejandra Silva’s home country of Spain earlier this year.
“My wife is so happy there,” Gere, 75, told Page Six at the City Harvest Annual Gala in New York City on Tuesday, April 22.
The Pretty Woman star explained, “Her family is there, her culture is there, [our] youngest kids are growing up there, their Spanish is perfect.”
When asked if he lives by the “Happy wife, happy life” philosophy, Gere laughed. “Yeah, I wanted you to say that, not me!” he quipped.
Gere met the Spanish publicist in 2014 during a trip to Italy. At the time, Silva, 42, relocated to America to pursue their relationship. Four years later, the couple tied the knot in April 2018.
“[It was] a very special moment in our lives … not only because we were able to share the joy of our mutual love with friends and family, but also because we had the opportunity to express our aspirations for the future,” Silva wrote via Instagram three months later. “As we move along this path and suffer the various ups and downs of life, we aspire to transform them into the path of love, compassion, joy and equanimity. ✨”
The couple welcomed their first son, Alexander, in February 2019, followed by son James in April 2020.
Both Gere and Silva were already parents before getting married. Gere shares 25-year-old son, Homer, with ex-wife Carey Lowell. Silva shares 12-year-old son Albert with ex-husband Govind Friedland.
After six years of marriage, Gere revealed that he and Silva were leaving the U.S. for Spain, honoring a deal they made earlier in their relationship.
“My wife is Spanish, and she gave me about seven years here, so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid with her family,” the Runaway Bride actor explained during a November 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Our kids are bilingual, so they’re going to flourish there.”
Gere gave fans a glimpse at his life in Europe earlier this year, telling Elle España in January, “The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum. We are happier than ever.”
He gushed, “She, because she is at home and I because, if she is happy, I am happy.”
Silva, meanwhile, told the magazine that her husband is a “very devoted and present father” who “loves to read them stories” and be home. “It seems like an idyllic photo, but it’s true. He’s a great dad,” she said.
Silva noted the one thing Gere doesn’t do is cook. “I do it, but when I cook, he plays the guitar,” she added.
Despite calling Spain their new home base, Gere and Silva do go back and forth to New York City, which is where his son Homer lives. Homer recently reunited with his father and stepmother on Tuesday in NYC for the City Harvest Presents the 2025 Gala: Carnaval.
