Earlier today, we told you that Israel had intercepted the Gaza-bound boat carrying Swedish climate advocate Greta Thunberg and other humanitarian activists.
The civilian boat set sail from Sicily about a week ago, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. It was intercepted about 200 kilometres from Gaza, according to coordinates provided by the organisation, which describes itself as a grassroots solidarity movement.
“Israel is once again acting with total impunity,” the group said in a statement.
The group has previously attempted to breach the blockade, most recently a month ago, when it claimed the ship was disabled by a drone strike.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz previously said no vessel would be permitted to breach his country’s naval blockade of Gaza.
The Israeli government says the blockade is intended to prevent the transfer of weapons to Hamas, which Australia, the United States and European Union have listed as a terrorist organisation.
However, international aid agencies have accused Israel of triggering a hunger crisis.
