MrBeast has paid tribute to a coach who died during during the course of his most recent challenge.
The world-famous YouTuber uploaded a new video on Saturday, titled “Lose 100 LBs, Win $250,00!” following his friend Majd, who is challenged to lose 100 pounds in six months.
Majd is helped in the video by a fitness coach named Tyler Wall. However, in the video, MrBeast’s team shared that Wall, who was 38, unexpectedly passed away around 80 days into the challenge.
X, YouTube and Reddit have all been flooded with posts as social media users speculate over Wall’s cause of death. Much of this speculation is contradicted by Wall’s death certificate, a copy of which Newsweek has obtained.
Newsweek has also reached out to Wall’s family for comment via a GoFundMe contact form.
A spokesperson for MrBeast declined to comment.
The Context
Wall died on February 18, 2025, in Greenville, North Carolina. In the video shared by MrBeast, Wall develops a close friendship with Majd, who was devasted to learn of his passing, but ultimately decides to keep going.
“We’re not pulling the plug on this,” Majd says in the video. “I can’t let him down.” He completed the challenge in 178 days.
MrBeast’s significant public profile—he is the world’s most popular YouTuber, with 407 million subscribers on the platform—has drawn significant attention to Wall’s passing.
What To Know
Maj was isolated from the outside world and placed in a training facility set up by MrBeast to transform his life, with unlimited access to food, workout equipment and a personal trainer, Wall.
The description of the video reads, in part: “It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Coach Tyler Wall. Coach Wall was a remarkable individual whose kindness and genuine spirit touched all who knew him. His loss has left our hearts heavy with grief.”
The description details that the MrBeast team had reached out to Wall’s family to determine whether the video should still be shared. It reads: “With grace and wisdom, they expressed that Tyler would have wanted his message of hope and positivity to continue reaching others, even in his absence.”
Speculation about the circumstances of Wall’s death followed. His death certificate, which has been seen by Newsweek lists “MANNER OF DEATH” as “Accident.”
In another section, which is detailed as “IMMEDIATE CAUSE (Final disease or condition resulting in death),” “Mitragynine Toxicity” is listed.
Mitragynine is an indole-based alkaloid and a main psychoactive constituent in the plant Mitragyna speciosa, which is commonly known as kratom.
Kratom is an herbal substance with opioid-like qualities and has a high risk of addiction, according to a 2024 report from Forbes. The Mayo Clinic says that kratom can be used in low doses as a stimulant, and at higher doses as a sedative. However, it adds that kratom is unsafe and carries a risk of addiction.
As of the time of this report, the video which features Wall and the news of his passing has been viewed over 86 million times and is the number one trending video on YouTube.
MrBeast shared a post on X about the video, writing: “I thought this was going to be a normal video but it ended up being one of the most emotional and powerful pieces [of] content I’ve ever filmed.”
