Just weeks away from the start of training camp, the Washington Commanders still have a big cloud hanging over their heads. Terry McLaurin is continuing his contract holdout, and there is still no end in sight.
With the wide receiver market reaching record highs in recent years, McLaurin is eager to be compensated similarly to his peers. Seeing that he’s maintained a high level of production over the last half-decade, the star wideout is more than deserving of a long-term commitment from the Commanders.
McLaurin had one of the best campaigns of his NFL career last season, breaking the 1,000-yard mark for a fifth straight year and catching a career-high 13 touchdowns. With Washington now eager to contend, they can’t afford to let this ordeal linger any longer.
As McLaurin and the Commanders have ongoing negotiations, the people at Bleacher Report put together a list of dark horse teams that could make a run at the star wideout. Among those mentioned was the Buffalo Bills.

“While the front office is seemingly content letting MVP Josh Allen elevate the smattering of solid but unspectacular receivers currently on the roster, it would still be in Buffalo’s best interest to acquire a superstar in the trade market,” Wrote Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay. “McLaurin would instantly become Allen’s top target and perfectly augment the versatile Khalil Shakir and developing Keon Coleman to form the nucleus of a passing attack that has potential rate among the best in the league.”
In the event Washington did star fielding trade calls, the Bills would be an interesting team to pursue McLaurin. He’d instantly raise Buffalo’s ceiling on offense and would get the chance to play alongside one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks in Josh Allen. Also, as a receiver capable of pulling off a big play at any moment, McLaurin would be a strong complement to the reigning MVP.

While trade speculation continues to swirl, the Commanders should be making sure things do not reach that point. McLaurin is a key piece to the offense and one of the longer-tenured players on the roster. If the franchise is going to continue trending in the right direction, they’ll need him on the field leading the offense with Jayden Daniels.
