LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers do not appear to be on good terms right now. Every report that has come out about the relationship this offseason has been negative.
Most recently, it was reported by veteran NBA reporter John Gambadoro that the Lakers would like to move on from James “as soon as possible.”
If that is indeed the case, teams around the league will begin considering whether or not they want to try to trade for James. That is a big question, as the 40-year-old superstar has just one year left on his deal that is worth over $52.6 million.
Of course, there is also a good possibility that James could play out the final year of his contract with Los Angeles. After the 2025-26 season, he could enter free agent and pick where he wants to play the final chapter of his NBA career.
REPORT: Lakers, LeBron James Situation Receives Blockbuster Update
Now, one of his former teammates has spoken out about James’ future.
Udonis Haslem, who played with James during his stint with the Miami Heat, made an appearance on “NBA Today” and revealed that he believes the all-time great could finish his career somewhere other than the Lakers.
“He could definitely possibly end it elsewhere,” Haslem said.
As for where James could play, Haslem suggested him teaming up with Stephen Curry on the Golden State Warriors.
“I mean, he’s talking to Steph. Who going to turn down the chef? If chef cooking up something, I’m showing up for dinner. For sure. That’s for (expletive) sure. If chef cooking, I’m showing.”
James and Curry teaming up has been teased many times in the past. It was even reported that after the Lakers traded for Luka Doncic, the Warriors considered pursuing a trade for James.
Report: Warriors Considered Trading for LeBron James
During the 2024-25 NBA season with Los Angeles, James played in 70 games. He averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and a steal per game, shooting 51.3 percent overall and 37.6 percent from the three-point arc. James is still more than capable of playing a huge role on a championship contender.
Other teams could come out with interest in James as well. Both the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks have been suggested as possible landing spots.
No one knows what will actually happen between James and the Lakers. However, it does appear that the two sides are headed for a split, whether it be this year or next offseason.
