Dehydration is a top skincare concern during the summer, so Us Weekly spoke with NYC-based aesthetician Jess Bowers to discover the best solutions for scoring super-moisturized, glowy skin.
The celebrity facialist — who sees clients from around the world from a private skin speakeasy in the West Village — believes less is always more when it comes to treating your complexion, a philosophy she adopted during regular trips to France.
“People always ask me how to keep their skin plump and hydrated throughout the hot weather months,” she shares. Her answer stays the same: “Fewer products and a consistent routine.”
Bowers goes on to reveal the common beauty mistakes that leave the face feeling and looking parched — and no, it’s not just about excessive sun exposure.
“Many people don’t use a gentle exfoliator to remove the buildup of sweat and SPF,” she states, noting that another frequent error is using facial oil on its own. “It can pull moisture from the skin, leaving it dehydrated,” she says. “Use a facial moisturizer first, then apply a drop of oil on top — or simply mix it into your moisturizer.”
As far as her go-to oils, Goop Beauty’s All-in-One Super Nutrient Face Oil remains a splurgeworthy favorite that she often incorporates into treatments for an extra hydration boost. For a more budget-friendly option, she recommends mixing in a small amount of jojoba oil or glycerin oil. “It’s like putting your moisturizer on turbo speed,” she jokes.
