Katy Perry stopped to help a fan during her concert in Detroit on Sunday after the young girl fainted on stage.
Newsweek reached out to Perry’s representative for comment on Monday via email outside regular working hours.
Why It Matters
Perry, 40, rose to fame in 2008 following the release of her hit songs “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot n Cold” off her album One of the Boys. Her 2010 album Teenage Dream was also a massive success with “Firework,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “California Gurls” and “The One That Got Away.”
Perry is currently on her “Lifetimes Tour” in North America. The tour follows the release of her latest album, 143, which dropped in September.
According to Forbes, the former American Idol judge’s net worth is $360 million.
What To Know
On August 3, Perry was joined by several audience members on stage to sing “The One That Got Away” at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
The pop star introduced concertgoers to a fan named McKenna and the pair shared a hug.
“You’re sparkling so bright, your light is so bright,” Perry told her in footage from the moment, which has been making the rounds on social media.
“We’re going to play a really special song. You know ‘The One That Got Away’?” she asked McKenna in a video posted to YouTube by MLive. McKenna nodded in response.
After Perry briefly walked away to get the fans several musical instruments, she can be heard telling McKenna to “breathe.” Moments later, the young girl collapsed to the floor.
Perry, her crew and medical personnel immediately tended to McKenna as the crowd cheered in encouragement. When she was taken off stage, the 13-time Grammy nominee led the remaining fans and crowd in prayer, per Billboard.
“Dear God, we pray for McKenna, that she will come back fully and brighter and better than ever,” she reportedly said. “Amen.”
She added: “It’s so much. Sometimes you’re so brave and you can get on stage, and it’s overwhelming. I understand that feeling.”
Later on in the show, Perry told the audience: “McKenna’s doing great, by the way.”
