A dead body was found inside a transport van outside the upstate New Horizons center, a residential facility for the developmentally disabled, New York State police said Tuesday.
The gristly discovery was made around 2 p.m. Monday, when troopers from the Rhinebeck barracks were sent to the residential facility, where the 26-year-old man was found in a van parked outside, police said in a press release.
Cops have not revealed the cause of death nor have they identified the man, who was reportedly a resident of the update treatment facility.
Sam Laganaro, the executive director of the residential center, told the Times Union that the facility is “fully cooperating with the investigation.
“We express our deepest sympaties to his family,” Laganaro told the outlet. “We cannot comment further as the investigation of the matter is ongoing.”
Police said the Dutchess County District Attorneys Office is also involved in the investigation.
Opened in 1974, the New Horizons Hyde Park facility treats about 200 individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral issues, both through a out-patient services and a residential program.
