Jessie J is setting the record straight as to whether she received “big implants” following her mastectomy to treat her surprise breast cancer diagnosis.
“Like, this isn’t cosmetic surgery, it’s a mastectomy,” the singer (born Jessica Cornish) told the Times in an interview published on Saturday, August 9. “I was able to keep my nipple but it’s all numb now. And when I bend down it looks like I’ve got a plastic carrier bag in my boob because you can see the wrinkles.”
Jessie, 37, shared that she’d been diagnosed with “early” breast cancer in June.
“I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me, and also I’m a sharer. I’ve always shared everything that I go through in my life. Before ‘No Secrets’ came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” she said in a video posted via Instagram. “I’m highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word early,” she continued. “I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period.”
Weeks later, Jessie shared another health update with her fans.
“Pros: Cancer has all gone,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories at the time. “My nipple is where it used to be [and] I can watch Love Island with no guilt. I am getting to rest and talk to friends more than ever.”
She soon offered another update the following day, clarifying her previous post and whether she was cancer-free.
“You have [misunderstood] my post. I posted a list of pros and cons of having breast cancer surgery,” she wrote via Instagram on June 27. “The first pro I put was … The cancer has all gone. This was a positive affirmation, NOT a fact.”
She continued, “I don’t have my results yet. I added the emoji in thinking people would understand and clearly a lot didn’t. A weird situation. My fault for not being clearer. But for now I do not have my results after surgery which was only 6 nights ago. I pray it will be true soon, but the journey of cancer isn’t that simple unfortunately!!”
On July 7, Jessie revealed she had received her results from the surgery. In a video shared via Instagram, Jessie encouraged her son Sky to tell viewers, “Mommy’s going to be okay.” He nods and repeats, “Be okay.” (Jessie shares Sky, 2, with boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman.)
“And…I AM OK,” she captioned the video. “Results = I have NO cancer spread 😭😭😭Happy tears are real 😭😭😭😭😭😭. Thank YOU for the prayers, the love, the well wishes, the joy and all the positive energy. 🥹,” she continued. “🫀= 🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋. This video is from the night before my surgery • We called it baby boy. You are my biggest ray of light and with you in my life the darkness will never win. ☁️🌞.”
She continued, “Lots of healing to go and one more surgery to make these cousins look more like sisters. But for now it’s gratitude time and I am changing my name to The LopJess monster 🧟♀️🌶️🍈🍳.”
