The Texas Rangers are one of the more intriguing teams in baseball right now.
While they’re not a World Series contender, they don’t seem like a bottom-of-the-barrel team, either. Instead, they’re stuck in the middle, which is oftentimes the worst place to be in baseball. They’re too good to land top draft picks, and they’re not good enough to make a postseason push.
It’s clear they need some change.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently listed Rangers outfielder and 2023 World Series hero Adolis Garcia as one of the All-Stars most likely to be traded in the offseason.
“Adolis García was the hero of Texas’ World Series run in 2023, with 15 RBI and a 1.293 OPS just in that seven-game ALCS showdown with the Houston Astros,” Miller wrote. “But he missed the final two games of the World Series with an oblique injury and just has not been the same since, with a .671 OPS over the past two seasons.
“Non-tendering him after all he did for them from 2021-23 would be almost cruel, as he does still have 41 home runs and 21 stolen bases since the beginning of last season. But trading him away to save what figures to be around $10M could be in the cards.”
Trading Garcia — who’s batting .224 with a .655 OPS with 16 home runs this season — seems like a no-brainer for the Rangers.
They’re a step or two behind in the division, with the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros only getting better as time goes on.
The Rangers don’t need a full-scale rebuild, but the big league roster needs to be retooled a bit. Trading Garcia would net some prospects in return while also freeing up a spot in the lineup for a prospect and a good bit of money to spend elsewhere.
