Shedeur Sanders was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Though he was expected to go in the first or second rounds, he fell all the way to the fifth, shocking many.

Despite his plummet in the draft, there is a new report that has indicated Sanders may have been drafted way higher, and by a shocking team.
Sanders reportedly was being eyed by the Baltimore Ravens, but he chose instead to contact the team and refuse that offer.
The #Ravens were planning to draft Shedeur Sanders in April, but when Sanders heard that, he let them know he did not want to be in a situation behind a star QB like Lamar Jackson, where getting on the field would be unlikely, per @AdamSchefter. pic.twitter.com/c7UNDAbRla

The reasoning behind joining the Ravens was due to having to sit behind Lamar Jackson. If Sanders had joined the AFC North squad, he would have a tough time playing.
According to reports, Sanders knew that sitting behind Jackson would have meant his playing time would have been minimal or non-existent.

This would have seemingly been a very tough call for Sanders. On one hand, he could have sat behind arguably the best quarterback in the league, learning invaluable information.
On the other hand, Sanders would have likely not been able to start at all. Jackson is one of the most durable and dependable quarterbacks in the league, so Sanders’ concern is understandable.
Sanders also gave up the chance to learn from John Harbaugh, one of the best coaches in the NFL as well.
What is most interesting is that Sanders might still not get a chance to play with the Browns. He is currently listed as the third emergency quarterback behind starter Joe Flacco and backup Dillon Gabriel.
Flacco and Gabriel would both need to be injured for Sanders to get the start. That is always a rarity in the NFL, but third-stringers getting called into action isn’t impossible.
Still, Sanders may have had experienced some of the best teaching had he been drafted by the Ravens. That knowledge may have aided him in signing and starting with a different team down the line.
