A video of a dog, once on the verge of euthanasia, using a bed for the first time brought viewers to tears.
Kennel Eviction Rescue, an animal rescue in Southern California, quickly stepped up to take a Husky into their care after hearing he was on the euthanasia list to make room at an overcrowded animal shelter. Although the dog, now named Orion, only lived at the shelter for a few weeks, he made it on the euthanasia list because of kennel cough.
Since being rescued and treated, Orion is now living with a foster parent while he waits for a forever family. His second chance at life has been a stark difference from living in a shelter. He went from sleeping on the cold, hard floors surrounded by a loud, stressful environment to experiencing love and firsts, including a doggy bed.
In an August 28 TikTok video posted to the account @kennelevictionrescue, Orion walked around a doggy bed sitting in the foster’s home. He inspected the object, unsure what to think as he had never slept on one before, but a quick touch of the soft material melted away any fears.
Part of the caption reads: “Welcome to your new life, Orion. You’re safe with us.”
Orion instantly fell asleep, although he didn’t quite get the concept of how to use the bed. He kept only his head on the doggy bed, while the rest of his Husky body stayed on the floor. But, with a rug on the ground, it still proved to be more comfy than what he experienced at shelters.
Plus, Kennel Eviction Rescue added a photo to the comment section, confirming that Orion has learned how to use the entire bed.
A representative from Kennel Eviction Rescue told Newsweek via TikTok that Orion is still available for adoption. However, the rescue organization’s fingers are crossed that he’ll match with a family from Oregon, as he has a meet and greet with them the first week of October
“He is honestly a doll,” the representative said. “He’s done great with other dogs. He’s been cat-neutral…He’s really good at matching energy with any dog or does great just hanging out as well.”
The rescue estimates he is about 6 or 7 years old, given his “mellow” behavior.
TikTok users instantly fell in love with Orion and his unconventional way of using a doggy bed, as someone joked: “Yup, that’s definitely the husky way of barely sleeping on the bed.”
Another viewer wrote: “Sweet angel just wants to rest his mind.”
A third person celebrated the rescue, stepping in: “You are amazing. Some people don’t deserve the love of a pet.”
