Police have told residents of Croydon Park, in Sydney’s inner west, to stay inside their homes after gunshots were fired about 7.45pm on Sunday.
Specialist police officers are now in the area and motorists have been urged to stay away.
Police said Georges River Road is closed between Croydon Avenue and Seymour Street and Brighton Avenue closed between Georges River Road and Queensborough Road.
“A police operation is currently under way at Croydon Park after shots were fired,” NSW Police said in a statement.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said they had treated four different patients with varying injuries.
One person with a gunshot wound presented themselves to Canterbury Hospital, he said.
Another person was treated at Croydon Park and was taken by ambulance to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital but the nature of that person’s injuries was unclear.
A further two people presented themselves to Campsie police station with minor injuries, the spokesman said.
