The Florida State Seminoles suffered their third consecutive loss on Saturday, falling 34-31 to the unranked Pittsburgh Panthers in Tallahassee.
Head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles looked good to start the year, opening the season with a thrilling upset victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide and notching blowout wins over East Texas A&M and Kent State. But since a double-overtime loss to the Virginia Cavaliers on Sep. 26, it’s been all downhill for FSU.
Norvell’s team is now 3-3 with a disappointing 0-3 record in ACC play.
Florida State fans are understandably angry with the team’s recent performance. As expected, social media was flooded with calls for Norvell’s job after Saturday’s disappointing loss.
“FSU should absolutely fire Mike Norvell. No matter the cost,” one fan wrote.
“Mike Norvell turned FSU into a punchline. The talent’s there, the money’s there, but the results? Embarrassing. Every big game turns into another coaching clinic, for the other team. Fire Mike Norvell before he buries the program deeper,” another said.
“I’m so done with Mike Norvell. Get this guy out of there. He does less with more every single week. Can’t recruit. Get him out,” another added.
During his postgame press conference at Doak Campbell Stadium, Norvell was asked to send a message to those furious Seminoles fans.
“You should be frustrated with the results. We lost three straight games. I’m frustrated with the results. Ultimately we got to get it fixed. We got to go make it better and show the potential of what this team is, you know, on a consistent basis,” Norvell said, via Dustin Lewis of SI.com.

With Saturday’s loss to Pitt, Norvell’s Seminoles are now 5-14 since their 63-3 Orange Bowl loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in 2023. Norvell’s overall record as Florida State’s head coach has dropped to 36-30.
The 44-year-old coach shouldered the blame after his team’s third consecutive loss.
“At the end of the day we got three straight weeks finishing the game with a one-possession loss, and there is too many things that have showed up that have kept us from that,” he said. “You know, ultimately, it all falls on my shoulders that we’re not getting it done. So we need to, as a group, talking to the guys in the locker room, it’s a pissed off football team.”
Norvell and the Seminoles will look to get their season back on track in a matchup against the Stanford Cardinal next weekend.
