In a post on Instagram, Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia addressed his absence from the World Series stage and revealed the personal matter that he had been dealing with.
According to Vesia, on Oct. 26, his daughter, Sterling Sol, died.

Vesia had been away from the team due to a “deeply personal family matter,” missing the World Series despite being a key reliever for the team and pitching throughout the NLCS.
His wife, Kayla, had been pregnant during the Dodgers’ postseason run and supported her husband throughout, as seen on social media.
Back in April, Vesia and his wife announced that they were expecting their first child together, saying “Baby Vesia coming soon, we are beyond excited for this next chapter” in an Instagram post.

During the World Series, the Dodgers’ and Toronto Blue Jays’ bullpens both wrote No. 51 on their hats in honor of Vesia, paying tribute to a player going through a tough time.
In his social media post, Vesia thanked both organizations for their acknowledgment during the Fall Classic.
“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” the post read.
“Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.
“Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.
“Lastly, we’d like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”
