Jason Kelce has no patience for those who would dare say Halloween is a better holiday than Christmas.
Jason, 38, and his brother, Travis Kelce, were soliciting “holiday hot takes” from their listeners on a bonus episode of their “New Heights” podcast, released Friday, November 21, when a fan named Thaddeus called in to share his.
“Halloween is actually a better holiday than Christmas,” Thaddeus said before Jason cut him off, saying, “You’re a f***ing idiot, Thaddeus.”
While Thaddeus conceded that Christmas “is cool and all,” he believes Halloween has “better all-around vibes. You get to spook kids and play pranks.”
“Christmas is the greatest holiday on the planet. There’s not even something that compares to it,” Jason asserted. “I love Halloween, but it couldn’t sniff a fart of Christmas.”
“The joy that Christmas gives you, just seeing the decorations, going to Christmas parties, the thanks, the joy of seeing another person open a present you give them,” Jason continued. ”I‘m trying to think in what world someone would think Halloween was better, and the only thing that makes sense is their parents gave them a s***ty Christmas.”
When Travis, 36, tried to defend Thaddeus’ parents, Jason stood firm.
“I’m definitely putting that on Thaddeus’ parents,” he said. “That’s the only possible way Thaddeus thinks that.”
Despite insisting he also loves Halloween, Jason wouldn’t let it go, even comparing each holiday’s signature candy.
“Candy corn is s***,” he said. “The candy that represents Halloween and the candy that represents Christmas [the candy cane] is night and day better than Halloween’s.”
“You put candy in the stockings. You don’t have to walk to stranger’s houses,” he added.
Part of the reason Jason so strongly prefers Christmas could be because he and his wife, Kylie Kelce, share four daughters, who seem to have taken control of Halloween in their household.
He and Kylie, 33, are the parents of Wyatt, 6, Ellie, 4, Bennett, 2, and Finley, 6 months.
“For me, my costumes now are just essentially what my kids wanna wear,” Jason said on an October episode of his podcast. “Like, I’m Kristoff this year just because Ellie and Wyatt and Bennie, they’re all going as Elsa. So, I’m Kristoff. I don’t wanna really reveal Kylie’s costume because that’ll get revealed later this week, but it’s fantastic.”
“I feel like in your 30s, once you start having kids, like, you don’t even get to choose anymore,” he added. “You get lumped in with your kids.”
Kylie has also weighed in on the struggles of the holiday with young kids, recalling Halloween 2023, when the entire family decided to dress as characters from The Little Mermaid.
“I had an Ursula costume that I never put on, but it’s in a bin in the basement,” she said on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast in October. “Jason was King Triton, Wyatt was supposed to be Ariel. Ellie was Flounder, which was one of the cutest costumes I’ve ever seen, accompanied with the other one of the other cutest costumes I’ve ever seen, which was Sebastian, and that was Bennie,” she began. “In the last — I’m talking the very last — minute before we leave the house, Wyatt decides she doesn’t wanna be Ariel.”
“It was in that moment that I decided, f*** family costumes,” she said. “F*** them.”
