After discovering that a stray cat had been living outside her house in freezing weather, a cat owner came up with a plan to help the kitty, and internet users can’t cope with it.
In a video shared on Instagram earlier in December, under the username @kotiki.proglotiki25, the fluffy tuxedo cat can be seen hanging around the woman’s porch in the snow, hoping that somebody would take her in.
But while nobody was able to take her indoors, the poster came up with a plan to still give her a warm Christmas, and it seems like the kitty really appreciated it.
“This poor stray cat got a Christmas present,” the caption says, as the video goes on to show the poster assembling the special gift.
“She has been around for a year at least, we couldn’t take her in, shelters and nobody else was able to help too. I’ve decided to at least buy her a heated house. It came a day earlier right when it started snowing. It even had a bow tie on the box.”
After assembling the heated house, the poster laid it outside for the kitty to see, even leaving some food inside to entice her.
“It looked so cozy inside. Now I was hoping she will understand what it’s for. Seems like she likes it. It got warm pretty fast. She still doesn’t know what to do with this… Let’s try some food inside,” the poster wrote.
Not long after she got the house, the kitty finally understood what it was for, and now she uses it as her full-time home. “Now she’s got her own little house, only comes out to eat and take a little walk,” the poster said.
Despite being covered in fur, most cats aren’t big fans of snow because they prefer warm, dry conditions, though individual preferences can vary by breed and personality.
Snow can be exciting for some cold-adapted breeds like Maine Coons, Turkish Angoras, Siberians, and Norwegian forest cats, who may enjoy playing in it, according to Catster.
However, many house cats dislike the cold and wet feeling that comes with snow, and no one can predict whether a particular cat will like it until they encounter it.
If a cat does like snow, owners should take safety precautions: protect their paws by drying them and checking for debris, ensure cats stay well-fed to maintain energy and insulation, make sure their environment remains safe from hazards like blocked exits or places they could get trapped, and provide warm resting areas.
Watch for signs the cat is too cold, such as shivering, cold ears or paws, lethargy, and seeking heat sources.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 714,000 views and 70,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Christinamatkin_bunny, commented: “I think you should put a spy camera and give us an update that poor little soul bless you.”
Gabrielavancouver said: “That’s awesome. You changed her life she’s not going to be sleeping outside anymore.”
Pepper.the.orange added: “The cat needs to be adopted.”
