Friday began with reports that the Michigan Wolverines were closing in on hiring former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham as their new head coach.
It ended with many on social media celebrating the school’s hire of Sherrone Moore’s successor and one of the team’s top 2026 recruiting signees requesting a release.

“BREAKING: Four-Star Michigan WR signee Brady Marchese is requesting a release from his signing, he tells me for @Rivals. The 6’1 185 WR flipped from Georgia to Michigan on signing day,” On3’s Hayes Fawcett wrote on X.
On3’s Chad Simmons reported Marchese “has his eye on a couple power programs moving forward,” though Georgia is reportedly not in the running.

Marchese held offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin when he signed with Michigan.
He logged 41 catches, 981 yards, and 15 touchdowns this season for Cartersville High School in Georgia. He totaled 44 receptions, 1,051 yards, and 11 touchdowns the season before.
It’s possible Marchese could be the first domino of several Michigan signees who ask to be released from their national letter of intent with news of the school’s head coaching change — something college football insider Josh Pate said was a driving factor in UM announcing Moore’s release after the early signing period.
“You find out after signing day, which I think was timed purposefully, that he is fired for cause,” Pate stated. “… This is one of those really interesting dynamics where there was a wild rumor circulating behind the scenes and it was accurate.”
