As the year closes on another fantastic slate of films, it’s time to look ahead to 2026, where new projects from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Greta Gerwig, Denis Villeneuve, and Christopher Nolan head to theaters.
Which Films Are Releasing in 2026?
The film calendar for 2026 is already shaping up nicely, with Netflix releasing the film adaptation of Emily Henry’s “People We Meet on Vacation” on January 6. Then, in February, Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi hits theaters on February 13.
These aren’t the only adaptations heading to the big screen throughout 2026. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride”, loosely inspired by Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”, hits theaters on March 6. Also receiving the adaptation treatment are Andy Weir’s “Project Hail Mary”, Homer’s “Odyssey”, Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility”, Suzanne Collins’ “Sunrise on the Reaping”, and C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia”.
Beyond adaptations, there are new original projects from Kristoffer Borgli, who directs Robert Pattinson and Zendaya in “The Drama”, as well as from Robert Eggers, who directs “Werwulf” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
As always, Sundance Film Festival offers a first taste of some of the year’s most interesting indies, and this year’s slate includes films from Olivia Wilde and Cathy Yan.
Wilde directs the script from Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, which follows Joe and Angela – two people who don’t often have people over. When the mysterious upstairs neighbors visit for dinner, an unexpected evening of twists and turns ensues.
Cathy Yan brings “The Gallerist”, a film starring Natalie Portman, Zach Galifianakis, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, which follows the titular gallerist who hatches a scheme to sell a dead guy at Art Basel Miami.
More to come throughout 2026, including more from Sundance as well as highly anticipated blockbusters.
