The Toronto Blue Jays have put together quite an exciting offseason to this point, headlined by the signing of Dylan Cease and the report that Kazuma Okamoto agreed to a deal with the team.
But the Blue Jays could be in the market to make one final blockbuster move ahead of the season.
Jackson Roberts of Fastball OnSi predicted the Blue Jays would sign Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker in the coming weeks, though Tucker has been closely linked to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“The ‘big one’ is still out there, and with Alex Bregman likely out of the picture because he plays Okamoto’s primary position, it’s probably down to either Tucker or Bo Bichette for these Blue Jays,” Roberts wrote. “Bichette is the incumbent; he just hit a massive home run for Toronto in Game 7 of the World Series, and the fan base adores him.
“But Tucker is likely going to be the more impactful player over the next half-decade, and the Blue Jays are proving this offseason that they’re willing to spend extra money if they think they’re getting the best player.”
The Blue Jays are seemingly the favorites to sign Tucker. They have the money to make a $400 million addition if they wanted to. Tucker would be the perfect addition.
Toronto’s infield is seemingly ready to roll into the season, but its outfield could use some additional talent. Signing Tucker to a massive deal to pair him next to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the next five or 10 years would put the Blue Jays in World Series contention for the next few seasons.
