In a viral video, a man from London, in the United Kingdom, put on a set of fake nails to prove to his wife that he could handle it—how it went has left internet viewers in stitches.
The Instagram clip, shared on Monday by the poster, 37-year-old Mathew Carter, under the username @mathewlcarter, shows him wearing a set of long, pink fake nails, trying to carry out his daily tasks after his wife told him he wouldn’t be able to.
Carter can be seen struggling to drive his car, work on his laptop, open bags, and even try to get some workout done at the gym, failing at every single task. “My wife has said I couldn’t last a day with fake nails…She’s right, I couldn’t even do a morning,” reads layover text in the clip. However, Carter told Newsweek that it is something “every man should do.”
“A very serious question ladies, how do you get anything done?? Don’t even get me started on when I had to go to the toilet,” Carter wrote in the caption.
For many women, nails aren’t just about looks, they are also a way to express themselves, and they are ready to spend a lot on personalized manicure services.
The average manicure cost in the U.S. varies widely depending on the service. A basic manicure typically falls between $18 and $50 and includes essential grooming such as cleaning, shaping, and cuticle care, with some salons charging extra for polish, especially specialty colors.
Add‑on treatments such as paraffin wax range from $10 to $50 and offer additional hydration. More indulgent options, such as deluxe or spa manicures priced at $30 to $55, feature extras such as exfoliation, massages, and masks.
Nail enhancements also influence pricing: French manicures usually cost $10 to $50, while Russian ones are significantly higher at between $75 and $90.
Gel nails run from $27 to $65 for application and $17 to $25 for refills. Acrylic nails remain a popular choice, costing $33 to $120, depending on length, with extensions adding $23 to $35. Maintenance fees include $22 to $40 for refills and $6 to $10 per nail for repairs.
The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 15.4 million views and more than 829,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Mollybabyyy_, commented: “The way he’s holding them like the paint on them was wet the entire time.”
Lizziapple said: “Why did he automatically assume the fingers were suddenly incapable of being used?”
Rebekahnailsit wrote: “The man got nails and forgot his fingers still bend.”
