The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their choice for a new head coach after Mike Tomlin chose to step down, hiring former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys lead man Mike McCarthy.
McCarthy, who is Pittsburgh through and through, will bring a different approach to the Steelers. With Tomlin leading the charge, Pittsburgh focused primarily on defense. As for the team’s new head coach, McCarthy is an offensive mind.
Adding to the intrigue of the hire is the fact that McCarthy coached Aaron Rodgers during his tenure with the Packers. He has openly admitted that he would like to see the future Hall of Fame quarterback return to the Steelers in 2026.

Since the decision was made to hire McCarthy, there have been plenty of reactions. Some have liked the move, while others are not happy about it. Now, team legend Ben Roethlisberger has spoken out with his opinion on the matter.
During an appearance on his podcast, Roethlisberger shared that he’s excited about the team hiring McCarthy.
“I know he’s coached alot of places but your telling me that he doesn’t have black and gold like in there,” Roethlisberger said. “We finally have an offensive minded coach in here I’m so excited for an offensive minded coach.”
Hearing that take from “Big Ben” will help ease the minds of some Steelers fans. A new head coach after such a long tenure with Tomlin leading the way will feel strange, but McCarthy’s approach could be a breath of fresh air.
Throughout his NFL career, the 62-year-old coach has compiled a 174-112-2 record. He has gone 11-11 in postseason play with a Super Bowl win back in 2010 in Green Bay.

No head coach is ever a surefire hire. Things can go wrong and coaches can be fired. However, McCarthy is clearly excited to return home to Pittsburgh and he has been a very successful coach throughout his NFL career.
Hopefully, he’ll be able to find more success with the Steelers and lead them back to the Super Bowl. That is his one and only goal. It will be interesting to see if he’s able to accomplish that goal.
