Police in Maryland confirmed Monday afternoon that officers had detained one suspect, a student, in connection with a shooting at a high school in Rockville.
Information on the incident was initially sparse from both the Montgomery County Department of Police and the Rockville City Police Department mid-afternoon.
“The student victim was found with one gunshot wound and transported to an area hospital in stable condition,” Rockville City Police Department said in a statement on Facebook.
“The suspect, also a student, was quickly identified and arrested a short time later near the school. At this time, there is no further threat to public safety.”
Officers surrounded the school, per videos from local media, for what they called an “active incident.”
Newsweek reached out to Wootton High School and Montgomery County Public Schools via email on Monday afternoon for comment.
