There’s a problem at the Winter Olympic Games.
No, it’s not the judges.
No, it’s not the lack of food at concessions.
No, it’s not the several gold medals that have fallen apart at the seams and needed to be replaced.
It’s the surface the skaters are playing on in Milan, Italy.
While speed skaters and hockey players have had issues with the choppy ice so far at the Olympic Games, no sport has had more issues with the ice than figure skating.
After the opening weekend with the team event, there were some slips and falls, but they were chalked up to nerves and the pressure of performing at the Olympics.
Now, though?
We saw a record number of trips, flops, crashes, and falls in the most recent men’s competition, with all three leaders experiencing a dip to the ice in their free skate segment.

While people online complained about how the ice looked and how it seemed almost slushy in some parts, a new photo of the rink’s conditions shows what the figure skaters have had to deal with at these Olympics.
X user “belowzero1021” posted an alleged personal photo from the venue, showing one of the workers dealing with the ice the figure skaters performed on.
“Is this an ice rink or a swimming pool? I was honestly dumbfounded so I filmed it.”
Other people who were at the event online commented on how the ice didn’t look quite right the entire night.
There have been issues throughout the preparation of the arenas for the Olympic Games, including one test game from a month ago that had to be delayed due to a hole in the ice.
With two more full events to go in figure skating, with the pairs and then the main event of the individual women’s competition, all the fans can do at this point is hope that the issues are fixed before action resumes on Sunday.
