President Donald Trump has said the United States has launched “major combat operations” against Iran.
Confirming the action in an eight‑minute video posted to Truth Social, Trump said: “Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, avicious group of very hard, terrible people.”
The president said Iran’s actions had “directly endanger[ed] the United States, our troops, our bases overseas, and our allies throughout the world,” framing the strikes as a response to what he described as long‑standing threats from Tehran.
Trump pointed to decades of hostility between the two countries, saying the Iranian regime had spent years calling for harm to the United States and carrying out what he characterized as sustained violence.
He also referenced the 1979–1981 U.S. embassy hostage crisis, during which 66 Americans were held for 444 days.
“It’s been mass terror, and we’re not going to take it any longer,” Trump said.
