The first dominoes of free agency have already fallen. However, there’s still more than enough talent up for grabs at most positions.
That includes wide receiver, a market that has moved much more slowly than expected. The likes of Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, Deebo Samuel, and Keenan Allen remain unsigned after a couple of weeks.
That’s also the case with DeAndre Hopkins, who flirted with multiple teams during the weekend’s Fanatics flag football event. However, of all the teams he talked about, it looks like the Minnesota Vikings might be at the top of his list because of Kyler Murray:
“Kyler… that’s my bro, man,” Hopkins told TMZ Sports. “Kyler is like family. Whatever I can do for someone like that — if Kyler needed me, if the Vikings need me, they know I’ll be there.”
Following his exit from the Houston Texans, Hopkins spent three years with Kyler Murray in Arizona. In his days with the Cardinals, the star pass catcher hauled in 221 receptions on 320 targets for 2,696 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also made one Pro Bowl and one second-team All-Pro there.
While he’s no longer at the peak of his powers and will be 34 next season, the 13-year veteran can still be a productive piece to any offense.
Of course, the Vikings are more than set with Justin Jefferson as their primary weapon, but after losing Jalen Nailor to the Las Vegas Raiders, there might be room for another pass catcher.
Hopkins has some of the most reliable hands in the game, and he’s always been a mismatch in the end zone because of his ability to create separation and win in contested catch situations.
There hasn’t been much buzz around him in free agency, but given his ties to Murray and likely cheap price tag, he might be a realistic target for Kevin O’Connell’s team.
