The No. 1 seeded Duke Blue Devils secured victories over Siena and TCU in the first two rounds this past weekend to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. They’re set to face the No. 5 St. John’s Red Storm in Washington, D.C., on Friday night.
Ahead of the matchup, the Blue Devils’ social media team shared big news about star freshman Cameron Boozer, who continues to lead the charge for Duke.
Boozer was revealed as the recipient of the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year award and was also named National Freshman of the Year.
“ONE OF THEM ONES,” Duke posted.

Duke boasts the most winners of these two prestigious awards in college basketball history, and Boozer joins only six other freshmen to earn the National Freshman of the Year honor. He also becomes the 10th Duke player to claim Player of the Year.
Among recent Duke stars to accomplish both awards, Boozer joins Cooper Flagg, who did it last year, and Zion Williamson, who earned the honors back in 2018.
For Boozer, however, the focus remains on winning a national championship. In his first two March Madness games, he scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Siena, then followed that with a 19-point, 11-rebound performance against TCU.
This season, Boozer has emerged as one of the standout freshmen in recent memory, averaging 22.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 56.3% from the field.
