Brad Underwood and the Illinois Fighting Illini will have their hands full with UConn in the Final Four on Saturday night, but the program was busy revealing some good news in the interim.
Quenton Coleman, a top-20 high school basketball recruit, announced his commitment to Illinois just a day before the program plays in the Final Four. Coleman admitted a recent recruiting trip helped seal the deal and land the talented player in Champaign next season.
“I just felt like it was the best decision for my family and me,” he told 247Sports. “I had just decommitted from a great program, and after I reopened (my recruitment), Illinois was one of the first schools to hit me up. They were in the rotation and talking to me before (first commitment).”

“The visit was great. They showed me the way. They showed me who I could be there, the expectations of me when I get there. The lifestyle and everything I saw was great.”
Coleman officially announced his commitment on social media.
“Coach’s vision for me is coming in there and helping to win a National Championship,” Coelman added. “Hopefully, they get it done this year, but I’m trying to help get him another one next year.”
“They definitely compared me (to others) but they want me to be Quentin Coleman. Just want me to come in there, play free and be that guy.”
Illinois tips off against UConn at 6:09 p.m. ET on TBS, truTV and HBO Max.
