Billie Eilish couldn’t hold back her emotions after she joined Justin Bieber onstage at Coachella.
One day after Bieber, 32, serenaded the “Birds of a Feather” singer, 24, with his 2009 hit “One Less Lonely Girl,” Eilish shared a tearful selfie on her Instagram Story with the caption, “Can’t stop crying.”
A TikTok shared by Claudia Sulewski, fiancée of Finneas O’Connell, captured Eilish — who is a longtime fan of the “Stay” performer — being urged onstage by Hailey Bieber before embracing the Grammy winner and becoming visibly overwhelmed with emotion throughout and after the performance.
Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, also took to Instagram to reflect on the performance, saying it was “one of the most touching moments ever.”
“It sounds crazy, but we watch our children develop these deep deep connections to artists who move them and usually there’s nothing in our power to do,” she continued. “But we buy them records and maybe buy them a ticket to a concert [or a movie of a concert in our case because we couldn’t afford to see an actual concert]. Watching this crazy unimaginable dream come true over many years is so incredible.”
“I’m so grateful to Justin Bieber for the kindness he has shown Billie and to our whole family and to Hailey who makes so many things wonderful and possible♥️♥️” she concluded.
The viral moment comes seven years after Bieber and Eilish met at Coachella in 2019. They went to collaborate on the remix of her single, “Bad Guy.”
After joining forces, Bieber revealed during a 2020 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that he hoped to protect Eilish from pitfalls of young stardom that he faced.
“I definitely feel protective of her. It was hard for me being that young and being in the industry and not knowing where to turn,” he shared at the time. “Everyone telling me they love me, and, you know, [they] just turn their back on you in a second. If she ever needs me, I’m gonna be here for her.”
“I don’t want her to go through anything I went through,” he added. “I don’t wish that upon anybody. If she ever needs me, I’m just a call away.”
She called Bieber “just the sweetest baby ever” during an appearance on The Morning Mash Up in 2021.
“I love him,” she said. “He’s a good friend of mine. He has been so helpful for me, in terms of just, like, dealing with fame.”
“He’ll call me sometimes and just say stuff that makes me just feel heard and like there’s somebody else that goes through the same stuff,” she continued. “So it’s really nice to have him.”
