Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis has a cannon for an arm.
In fact, his arm strength was his most-talked about attribute during the 2023 NFL draft.
So when Willis, who signed a three-year, $67.5 million contract back in March, stepped up to the pitcher’s mound at LoanDepot Park to throw out the first pitch of Friday night’s Miami Marlins-Philadelphia Phillies game, fans likely expected to be dazzled.
What they got instead was another gaffe to add to the ever-growing first-pitch blooper reel.
As he worked through his wind up, Willis’ left foot slid on the mound and his pitch sailed wide right of the catcher and bounced into the back stop. The throw wasn’t reflective of Willis’ 85.7 completion percentage last season with the Green Bay Packers.
It didn’t take fans long to hit social media to start savagely roasting Willis over his blunder, with a few Dolphins fans pointing to the incident being a bad omen for the 2026 season.
“Dolphins are not messing around. They want that 2027 #1 overall and they’ll fight you for it,” one fan quipped.
“0-17 incoming. Pray that South Florida gets Arch,” another fan replied.
“[Expletive] we going 2-15 next year, smh,” a third fan added.
“Can’t wait till he throws his first 25 ceremonial interceptions,” one user posted.
“They might downgrade the comp pick from a third to a seventh just for this,” another user scoffed.
“Who did it worse Willis or 50 cent?” asked one fan.
“Frankly, it didn’t look much different from when he was on the Titans,” another user remarked.
Willis went 2-1 as the Packers’ starter in two seasons. He threw for 972 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions with a 134.6 passer rating. Willis also rushed for 261 yards and three additional scores.
