The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced a new commemorative stamp release set to launch this summer, celebrating Barbie with a collection featuring the doll across multiple iconic careers throughout its history.
The set will showcase Barbie dolls dressed for 10 different professions, highlighting the character’s long-standing cultural influence and evolving representation in popular culture. The USPS said the designs are preliminary and may be subject to change ahead of release.
Newsweek contacted Mattel and USPS via email on Sunday for comment.
Barbie’s Cultural Influence
Created by Mattel, Barbie was introduced in 1959 as “The Original Teenage Fashion Model” and quickly became a global cultural icon. Over more than 65 years, the doll has gone on to represent more than 250 careers, becoming a symbol of aspiration and imaginative play for generations of children.
From astronaut and surgeon to soccer player and sign language teacher, Barbie’s career history is central to the new stamp collection, which aims to reflect the breadth of roles the doll has embodied. The USPS said the release is designed to encourage fans to “dream big” and explore a wide range of possibilities.
Ethel Kessler, an art director for the USPS, collaborated with Mattel on the stamp designs. To accommodate the detailed depictions of Barbie’s career outfits, the stamps use a rarely employed format that is one-third taller than standard vertical commemorative stamps.
Kessler said the design team approached the project “with a spirit of fun,” incorporating bright, energetic colors dominated by the signature “Barbie Pink” to evoke a sense of joy.
The Barbie commemorative stamps are scheduled for release on July 11 during the 2026 National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention in Austin, Texas. As Forever stamps, they will remain valid for mailing First-Class letters regardless of future price changes.
Other Major Stamp Releases This Year
As reported by Newsweek, there are several major stamp collections being released this year. They include:
First-Class “Day at the Beach” Stamps, a new series of Forever stamps designed to capture the familiar sights and slower pace of a seaside beach holiday and “add a touch of sunshine to correspondence.”
USPS art director Derry Noyes worked on the stamp designs, using original oil paintings by artist Gregory Manchess. USPS said the designs were inspired by Noyes’ annual summer trips to beaches in New England.
The “A Day at the Beach” stamps officially debuted on April 24, during a first‑day‑of‑issue ceremony at the WESTPEX Stamp Show in Burlingame, California, and are now available to buy.
Bald Eagle Stamps. The USPS is set to release a new set of commemorative postage stamps honoring the U.S. national bird, the bald eagle. The first day of issue will be on May 14.
The bald eagle has graced U.S. stamps since 1869, but these stamps will feature the bird through its life from a hatchling to an adult. There are five illustrations in total, which show the bald eagle as it grows.
The stamps were designed by Noyes. The designs were made using original paintings by noted ornithologist and illustrator David Allen Sibley.
The Figures of the American Revolution collection marks the nation’s 250th anniversary, highlighting 25 individuals whose actions helped shape the American Revolution and the founding of the United States.
Each stamp features a modern portrait based on historical imagery, with the subject’s name and a short identifying description printed beneath the image. The words “USA” and “Forever” appear along the bottom of each stamp.
The American Revolution Stamp Booklet. “Treasures of the Revolutionary Era,” is a 20‑stamp prestige booklet created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
The collection focuses on 10 historically significant objects from the Revolutionary period—ranging from everyday tools to powerful national symbols which are each featured twice within the booklet.
The Route 66 Stamp Collection. Set to release in May, the Route 66 stamp collection launch features eight stamps, each representing one of the eight states the historic highway passes through. The song “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66,” recorded by Nat King Cole in 1946, celebrates the road and some of the stops as it crosses Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
