The New York Knicks are bored.
The Knicks have won seven straight playoff games, dating back to April 25. They most recently completed a sweep of the Philadelphia 76ers with a 144-114 rout in Philadelphia last Sunday. It sealed the Knicks’ second straight trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, but they’re twiddling their thumbs while the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons fight it out in their series.
Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart uploaded their newest “Roommates Show” episode on Friday, and broke the NBA fourth wall.
“I’m not gonna lie, a sweep is great, right? But dog, seven days — minimum — off?” Hart said. “No games? That’s torture. Like, torture. I’m over here just doing nothing. Hanging up art. Adam [Silver], c’mon, we gotta lock in.”
Hart admitted he would rather have executed a sweep than sweat out a seven-game series, but he feels like “there’s too much time” between their annihilation of the 76ers and Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Brunson agreed.
“It is a long time,” the All-NBA and All-Star point guard said. “It is a very long time, but I think, as a team, we need it. There’s really not much to say. It was very surprising. I’ll say that.”
Brunson admitted that while he always believed the Knicks would advance over the 76ers, he did not see a sweep coming — and definitely not winning by an average of 22 points.
“Games 3 and 4, I was just like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on with them,'” he said of the 76ers, adding, “You can’t really explain what happened, to be honest.”
The Knicks have been the second-most dominant team in these playoffs, behind only the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, who have yet to lose after sweeping the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers in their first two series.
The Cavaliers have a chance to close out the Pistons on Friday night. Whether it’s the Cavaliers or Pistons, it’s hard to see either team beating the Knicks four times in the Eastern Conference Finals. It’ll be the ultimate test of the “rest vs. rust” theory.
