On Friday night Caitlin Clark knotted the Indiana Fever’s game against the Washington Mystics at 89 points apiece with a three-point shot late in the fourth quarter.
“I felt like I could have made another, like, five,” Clark said following the 104-102 loss. “They’re all right there, and obviously it was great to break through and get some to go down.
“That’s the hardest thing as a basketball player, when you’re not making shots, to really stay in it. So I’m certainly proud of myself — really, really battled. And a lot of those shots are very, very makeable.”

The start of the season wasn’t kind to Clark, who made just three of her first 16 3-point attempts in the first two games of the season. She bounced back by making 7 of 17 shots beyond the arc during Friday’s game while scoring a game-high 32 points to go along with eight assists and four rebounds.
She put up 17 points, including five 3-pointers, in the fourth quarter while helping the Fever (1-2) erase a nine-point deficit after the opening three quarters.
While she finally got things going offensively, Clark lamented the Fever’s lack of defense after giving up over 100 points for the second time in three games.
“We’ve been letting [making shots] dictate how well we played defense too much,” Clark said. “Which is disappointing for us as a group. … When things aren’t going well, we’ve still got to be able to defend and find ways to get stops, and we haven’t done that very well to this point.”
Clark and the Fever get one night off before a showdown against the Seattle Storm on Sunday.
