Charli XCX is gearing up to release a new album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” on July 24. Fans have already seen the album cover, which features rocker John Cale, designer Marc Jacobs and director Martin Scorsese, three heavyweights in the industry.
Doing the cover, Charlie says she felt “shook.” Yes, it’s another trendy term to add to your roster of Gen-Z words.
“You know how people use the term ‘shook?’ … I never really have felt genuinely shook before, I think,” she said in an interview with Shaad magazine. “And once we finished that shoot, me and [photographer] Aidan [Zamiri] were just … it was like this out-of-body experience and I turned to him and I was like, ‘I think this is what shook means.'”

“Just to have these three legends in this room being willing to come together for this album cover … it was really cool,” Charli added. “It felt quite magical, and not something that I think I’ll ever really experience again.”
So, why did Charli go with those three men on the cover. She tells the publication that she has “personal connections with” those men and it felt right to have them on her album cover. She work with John Cale on the soundtrack for the film “Wuthering Heights,” and she’s also done a handful of fashion campaigns with Marc Jacobs.

Her connection to Scorsese is about film and education, noting, “I’ve been lucky enough to be able to sit down and have a few conversations with him about film, about his films and his encyclopedic knowledge of films.”
