Actor and comedian Anthony Head, most memorably known for his legendary role in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” died at the age of 72.
As per the press release given by the actor’s daughters, Emily and Daisy Head, the “Ted Lasso” star died “of complications due to pneumonia.” He breathed his last “peacefully,” being surrounded by family.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father, Anthony Head. He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family,” the statement made to the Press Association read.
“It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many.”
“We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in – he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky, to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades,” they continued.
Asking for privacy during the difficult times, Head’s daughters emphatically added that “his legacy will live on,” despite the grief “in the shows he was a part of, and in the audiences that love them.”
Soon, the fans mourned the death of the actor who was long known for a varied range of work.
One of the fans on X said, referring to his fame from coffee commercials, “Everyone better drink a cup of tea in honor of Anthony Stewart Head today 💔.”
“Or coffee, his coffee commercials when I was a kid were everywhere. That’s when I first started crushing over him. Then Buffy, enough said,” mourned another.
Someone else added, “yeah i can’t believe we are slowly losing the buffy gang.”
“The original Nescafe man, long before George Clooney,” remembered a heartbroken fan.
His co-stars also took to the Internet to mourn the actor. James Marsters, his “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” co-star wrote, “There’s a hole in the world. Anthony Head has passed on from us. He was an unflaggingly kind and steady presence on the set of Buffy, and the best actor in the cast. He was the best of us. I was lucky to have known, and learned from him. He left the world a better place for his presence. Thank you Tony for all you gave.”
Head’s “Ted Lasso” co-star Brett Goldstein expressed, “Anthony Head was a brilliant actor who played the worst person in the world, which was an incredible skill because he was the best person. Infinitely charming and kind and fun and a joy. He will be sorely missed. Love to his family.”
Someone else explained, “Ironically, he came to prominence in the UK during the late 1980s due to long running serialized Nescafe TV commercials which told the story of a romance between him and his neighbour.”
As Head’s fans mentioned, he found enormous fame in the UK during the 1980s for his role in the Nescafe commercials as the man in the Gold Blend couple. He was one half of the pair from 1987 to 1993 along with Sharon Maughan.
Apart from playing Rupert Giles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and Rupert Mannion in “Ted Lasso,” his acting credits also include “Little Britain,” “Merlin” and “Dominion.” In 2022, he also appeared as Lord Sheffield for an episode in “Bridgerton.”
His death happened just six months after his longtime partner Sarah Fisher died in December at the age of 61.
