Sergio Hudson’s sultry spring collection, unveiled at the Rainbow Room, showcased the models’ hourglass silhouettes. Fitted to a whisper, his evening gowns, sharp suits and plunge-neck jumpsuits outlined every contour. Paired with vertiginous heels, slender belts and sleek hair, the look was polished and powerful, just like his fans.
The designer, who has dressed everyone from Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, Keke Palmer and Rihanna to Rachel Brosnahan, took next season’s inspiration from James Bond – but in his world, a woman is the secret agent.
Lining the front row, his A-list friends said they appreciate his alluring, body-conscious cuts.
“I’m a woman with a waist,” said actor Karen Pittman, who attended the show along with Muni Long, Sunny Hostin, June Ambrose, Crystle Stewart, Mickey Guyton and Bianca Lawson. “I can always depend on him to create a silhouette that’s flattering and in beautiful colors, shapes and textures,” continued the beguiling star of ‘The Morning Show’ and ‘And Just Like That.’
“I wore him when I was a Time Magazine honoree,” continued Pittman, laced up in his black corset dress. “I’ve worn him on ‘The Morning Show’ as Mia Jordan. I wear him in my life for my biggest moments: my daughter’s graduation, my son’s birthday parties. He’s more than just a celebrity designer. He really does fit in my life.”
Perched a few seats down, NeNe Leakes was busy snapping pictures of her favorite ‘fits, including a second-skin black lace jumpsuit and the vibrant chiffon evening gowns that closed the presentation.
“I love the lace!” she said as she raced to the exit. “And the dress too. I’m going backstage [to reserve them]. Right now!”
