Move over Costco, Krispy Kreme is coming for your churro groupies.
Krispy Kreme is taking on fall with a brand new debut — Churro Doughnut Dots. The new, poppable treat is made with its signature light and airy dough and tossed in a cinnamon and sugar coating.
Each order of Churro Dots comes with eight cinnamon sugar-coated bites — and saucy donut lovers can dunk the sugary balls of dough into a delicious dulce de leche dipping sauce.
The North Carolina-based donut chain is rolling out the Dots for a limited time only, starting on Sept. 22. Sweet eaters can scoop them up in-store, via drive-thru and for pickup or delivery through Krispy Kreme’s app and website.
Krispy Kreme has added the Churro Dots to its returning fall line-up — which launched back in August — where customers can also score the Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut and the Biscoff Cookie Butter Doughnut.
Two new treats were also added — the Maple Cheesecake Doughnut and the Cafe Mocha Doughnut.
To wash it all down, the fall flavors are also joined by the classic coffee flavors — the Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Spice Coffee and the Apple Crisp Latte.
The churro addition comes shortly after Costco announced it was bringing back its Churro to the popular food court. The popular pastry was replaced by the Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie two years ago.
However, customers were in for a real surprise as the warehouse giant didn’t resurrect the original prodigal pastry — it’s a literal twist on the fan favorite. Costco added the $1.49 Twisted Churro, which apparently lacks the satisfying crunch of the OG Costco dessert.
The move caused a real stir with some members, who claimed the chain brought back the wrong one.
“You brought back the WRONG CHURRO,” blasted one disappointed shopper on Instagram.
“We said churro, not twisted churro,” another whined, adding nose-blowing and crying emojis.
The anger is over two major factors, this Twisted Churro is now 50% more expensive — it was just $1 when it first debuted in stores — and the stick of fried dough has been described by members as “too bready.”
So, for customers looking for an easily poppable churro, with light and airy dough — it may be worth sticking it to the man and trying the Krispy Kreme version.
