Exclusive | New York Times’ tech exec is shot dead by his elderly Chinese in-laws at California sports complex

A New York Times tech executive has allegedly been shot dead by his elderly in-laws in California, The Post can reveal.

Jonathan McKinsey, 40, the newspaper’s head of engineering for games player experience, was killed by Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds around 3.p.m Saturday, per police.

Officers patrolling the area spotted McKinsey with multiple gunshot wounds as emergency dispatch began receiving a flood of 911 calls.

First responders attempted aid, but he died at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing two masked assailants approach McKinsey in the lot. The witnesses say the shooters took turns unloading bullets into the victim before they were quickly arrested by a passing cop.

Zhang stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds, while his wife is only 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing just 110 pounds.

A spokesman for the New York Times confirmed the McKinsey was a member of staff, who had been at the company since 2023.

Zhang and Chen were booked into Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of murder.

According to Alameda County Sheriff’s Office inmate records, the couple is looking at a whole stack of serious charges, including first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, dangerously firing a gun, and child endangerment that could’ve caused major injury or death.
