Joe Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, is slipping in the charts, and is currently ranking at third most popular on the Spotify list, its lowest recent position.
Newsweek reached out to a representative for Rogan for comment outside of regular working hours via email.
Why It Matters
The Joe Rogan Experience has consistently topped the podcast charts in recent years. The show frequently welcomes prominent and sometimes controversial guests, including politicians hoping to secure the votes of its largely young, male audience.
According to data from Media Monitors, Rogan’s listenership is 71 percent male and is evenly split between high school and post-secondary graduates. Rogan has 19.4 million subscribers on YouTube, 19.7 million on Instagram and 15 million on X.
What to Know
According to the Spotify podcast chart archive, Rogan’s podcast topped the chats at the end of 2023, beginning of 2024 and midway through 2024, taking the top spot in the months of December, January and September during those years.
In January of 2025, Rogan’s podcast slipped down to second place being overtaken by the Shawn Ryan Show.
Then in February 2025, Rogan’s podcast dropped down into third place, the lowest recent ranking for the podcast, according to the Spotify charts. In second place was the podcast Fall of Civilizations, and in first was The MeidasTouch Podcast.
Data from Podscribe, a podcast ranker, showed that in February, Rogan’s podcast had 51.5 million downloads and plays, an increase of 25 percent. MeidasTouch rose by 109 percent, hitting 57.5 million downloads and plays.
Rogan’s fans were not happy about him losing the top spot. One social media wrote on X: “I’m still having a VERY hard time believing this,” while another wrote: “The Democrats are paying for this it’s not real.” Another user wrote: “Lol, fake news. Liberals lie about everything.”
His podcast was also knocked off the top spot in December by the debut episode of Kylie Kelce’s podcast, Not Gonna Lie, which premiered on December 5. Responding at the time, the 32-year-old mother of three who is currently pregnant with her fourth child told The New York Times “I couldn’t care less about the charts.”
Rogan interviewed Donald Trump on his podcast during the 2024 presidential campaign. After this, he declared his support for Trump, and went on to attend his inauguration. Rogan was also thanked by name by Trump’s longtime friend Dana White when Trump claimed victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
However, he does not identify as a Republican and recently said in an episode of his podcast: “I don’t consider myself a Republican. I don’t consider myself a Democrat either. I consider myself an American.”
What People Are Saying
Elon Musk on X: “Just did a long @JoeRogan episode.”
MeidasTouch cofounder Ben Meiselas, in an email shared with Newsweek after its podcast took the top spot: “It’s great to see the message reaching people who seek the truth and are ready to stand up for democracy.”
Joe Rogan said during his October 2024 interview with Trump: “Once they shot you, I was like ‘he’s gotta come in here,'” adding: “It’s all about timing, it’s all about the timing. I think the timing is perfect.”
Rogan was referring to the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024 when the top of Trump’s right ear was grazed by a bullet.
What’s Next
The podcast slide may not continue. The most viewed ever episode of Rogan’s podcast was his September 2018 interview with Elon Musk, when the Tesla owner famously smoked marijuana and drank whiskey with the host. Early on February 28, Elon Musk posted on X that he just did a “long” episode with Rogan.
