The wind blowing at The PLAYERS Championship on Saturday afternoon is brutal. It has players questioning every shot they take as they plot their way around the third round at TPC Sawgrass.
If anyone could put it into perspective, it was Billy Horschel.
His on-course interview with NBC Sports analyst Cara Banks was raw and honest, and most golf fans can relate.
“I have no God honest control of my golf swing and don’t know where the golf ball is going right now, so I’m trying to get into the house as fast as I can,” Horschel said.
Horschel eventually made it back to the clubhouse. But not until after he carded a 5-over 77, including a water ball on the famous island green at 17.
When the winds blow 20-plus miles per hour with gusts upwards of 35 miles per hour, hitting a small white ball is hard even for the PGA Tour professionals.
Sometimes they do not know what to do, which reminds us all that golf may be the most difficult sport to play well.
Most Sunday golfers know this feeling all too well, experiencing similar symptoms every time they play the game.
Once his interview went live on the air, fans flocked to say, “One of Us.”
Professional golfers are no stranger to winds, but what is happening at The PLAYERS on Saturday is pure carnage.
Horschel is among the most honest players on Tour and he summed up the round perfectly. It is hard out there, and despite being some of the best players in the world, even professionals can struggle mightily guessing on the wind.
