Colston Loveland’s 58-yard clincher and 118-yard game in the Chicago Bears’ thrilling 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9 showed he can produce when targeted and trusted.
Fantasy football managers who paid up to draft him (consensus No. 12 tight end in ADP) and held on through the first half of the season, in which he saw just 18 targets in six games, were rewarded handsomely.
Unfortunately, it now looks like Sunday’s breakout performance may have been short-lived following the Bears’ latest update.
On Thursday, Chicago listed starting tight end Cole Kmet as a full participant in practice after he left the Cincinnati game with a concussion and entered the NFL’s five-step protocol.
Kmet logged a limited session on Wednesday before taking the full practice step on Thursday, a key development as the team prepares for Sunday’s home game against the New York Giants.
He’ll still need final clearance from an independent neurologist before being officially ruled available, but it’s certainly trending in that direction.

Through Week 9, Loveland has just 17 receptions for 234 yards and two receiving TDs in limited usage, with almost all of that production coming from one game.
A former All-American tight end at Michigan, Loveland was Chicago’s 2025 first-round pick (No. 10 overall) and has flashed the size and athleticism that made him a top prospect; the Bengals game was his first true extended opportunity and instantly raised his fantasy profile.
However, Kmet’s likely near-term return removes the guaranteed pathway to week-to-week starts for Loveland.
After the Giants on Sunday, the Bears have a road trip against the Minnesota Vikings (Nov. 16) and a home game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers (Nov. 23) before a matchup at the Philadelphia Eagles (Nov. 28); three playoff-caliber football teams.
With a 5-3 record and a young core of pass-catchers still building chemistry with QB Caleb Williams, the next few weeks will be crucial if Chicago hopes to sneak into the postseason.
How involved Loveland is over that stretch remains to be seen, but it’s a story worth monitoring.
