The Toronto Blue Jays have been connected to Chicago Cubs free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker this winter. He’s the top free agent on the market and is expected to sign for around $350 million, if not more.
The Blue Jays have a lot of big spending competition in the Tucker sweepstakes. The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and other big market clubs are reportedly in the hunt for the superstar.
Still, SNY’s Anthony McCarron predicted the Blue Jays would sign Tucker to a long-term deal in free agency.
“Yes, Kyle Tucker gets his long-term deal and it’s with the Blue Jays. Why not? They’ve already had a huge winter and one more mega move could put them in a Dodgers-esque stratosphere,” McCarron wrote. “In all the chatter out there on Tucker, the Mets and Dodgers have profiled as teams looking to give him a shorter pact. Toronto’s been believed to have interest in a longer one. That’s the difference.”
The Blue Jays are seemingly willing to offer Tucker a longer contract than the other teams left in the sweepstakes, which could be the difference in landing him.
Toronto would likely be the favorite to come out of the American League on top again next year if it’s able to land Tucker. The slugger would complement Vladimir Guerrero Jr. perfectly for as long as the duo is able to play together.
The Blue Jays have the money. There’s a reason they’re the favorites. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before a deal gets done.
