Social media users can’t get enough of the unlikely friendship between a border collie and a crow—yes, you read that correctly.
TikTok user Autumn Buck (@firstdatejunkie) has gone viral after sharing an adorable video of her border collie named Meeko, along with his unexpected best friend. It’s not another dog or even another person that Meeko is so closely bonded with, but rather, a black crow that Buck rescued.
Indeed, the baby crow appeared to fall out of a tree, so Buck, from Portland, Oregon, took it upon herself to help him out. She rather hilariously named the crow Russel, and she’s been feeding him by hand, keeping him safe, and even providing him with his very own “flight school.” She perches the crow on her hand and encourages him to flap his wings and try to fly.
Of course, Meeko has been by her side throughout that and has built a precious friendship with Russel too. Now, the duo has become inseparable, and Buck even believes that Russel thinks Meeko is like his parent.
Buck shared a sweet video on TikTok which showcased their “unlikely friendship.” During the clip, Meeko and Russel can be seen lounging together on the deck, following each other around the yard, and hanging out whenever they can. In fact, Buck even jokes that Russel will “knock on the door” with his beak to get Meeko to come play.
In the days since the clip was shared online, TikTok users can’t get enough of their bond. The video has gone viral with more than 209,700 views and over 39,300 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
Newsweek has contacted @firstdatejunkie via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.
Alongside the post, the TikTok caption reads: “If this unlikely friendship doesn’t make your heart melt—I don’t know what will.”
As she continues to help Russel recuperate and manage to fly, Buck has documented their progress on TikTok.
Meeko features in almost all the videos, and it’s such a delight for Buck to see them together, as she added that she could “watch them all day long.”
As it turns out, social media users couldn’t agree more. With over 400 comments on the viral video, plenty of people have praised their unconventional friendship which seems straight out of a Disney movie.
One comment reads: “This should be a children’s book.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “That’s one smart duo, you better keep an eye on them or they’re gonna start scheming.”
Another person added: “oh they definitely recognized each other from a past life.”
While one commenter replied: “nature is an amazing and wonderful thing, who would ever think a crow and a dog?”
