A bride has gone viral after sharing the chaotic moment she realized her wedding dress was missing—just hours before she was due to walk down the aisle.
Danielle Olivia Lyth (@danielleolivia_), 30, from Lancashire, U.K., planned her dream destination wedding in Marbella, Spain, where she grew up. Arriving two days early, she stayed in a villa an hour and a half from the wedding venue with her family, including her mother Lorraine, fiancé Jamie, and their 3-year-old daughter Eva. Though on the morning of the wedding, her dress and veil were nowhere to be seen.
“I full on had a breakdown and panicked,” Lyth told Newsweek. “I had all my make up done and my hair and my wedding dress was still not on the mannequin displayed. I then asked my sister, my maid of honor, to find out what’s going on, to which it then all unfolded. My sister said we can’t find your dress or veil.” The video of the debacle garnered 511,000 views and 31,600 likes on TikTok.
In the lead-up to the big day and three-week stay, a detailed plan was in place to transport the many bags and boxes from the villa to the hotel near the venue. The load included eight suitcases, hat boxes and of course, the dress—which required its own seat on the plane.
With multiple events lined up—including a white party the night before the wedding and their daughter’s christening two days later—the family had a lot to juggle.
Once at the venue, everyone settled into the hotel and began rushing to prepare for the white party at a nearby beach club.
“Safe to say I told my husband to not get too drunk as I was nervous about the wedding day… well apparently that went out the window when I had one too many shots of tequila and had to be taken back to the hotel,” the bride added.
Despite the previous night’s antics, Lyth woke up feeling surprisingly refreshed. She had breakfast with her bridesmaids on the balcony and began getting ready as a flurry of makeup artists, photographers, and hairdressers filled the suite. Meanwhile, her fiancé was enjoying a quiet swim in the pool with their daughter, unaware of the chaos that was about to unfold.
“I asked my mom to go and get my wedding dress from her room so we could put it on the mannequin to display it for photos,” Lyth recalled. But as the preparations ramped up, the dress never appeared.
With only four hours until they had to be ready, the bridal suite descended into a frantic search.
Her mom then realized it could be back at the villa, over an hour away. The only person who could attempt to retrieve the missing dress was her brother-in-law.
The tension built when her brother-in-law arrived at the villa and couldn’t locate the gown.
Then came the moment of relief. “He eventually found a big box behind the door at the villa and a black box with my veil in and showed us on FaceTime I could have screamed with happiness,” Lyth said.
An hour and a half later, he arrived at the hotel, dress and veil in hand—just in time for the bride’s pre-ceremony photos.
“All in all I was trying to keep calm throughout the whole time as I didn’t want it to ruin the morning of my wedding day. We had an amazing day and people still talk about our wedding now. It was a full week of celebration and that wedding day will go down as one of the best days of my life. Regardless of the dress situation, everyone who came and made the effort to come out to our destination wedding and came to all the wedding parties,” she said.
The dress was designed by Eleganza Sposa, a luxury bridal boutique in Glasgow, Scotland. The design had three layers meaning it could be adapted throughout the day.
After posting about the ordeal on TikTok, viewers flooded the comments with their reactions.
