Dogs may not get endless playtime, but one determined Cavapoo wasn’t ready to call it quits when his toys were put away.
In a viral TikTok clip, the determined pup took matters into his own paws by diving straight into the toy box to rescue his favorite orange bone. After successfully retrieving it, he strutted out of the room with his prize, earning over 160,000 views, at the time of writing.
The footage, posted by user @dr.deavila from Atlanta, Georgia, was humorously paired with the iconic Mission Impossible theme tune.
Text layered over the video reads: “when mom puts away your favorite toy, but forgets you’re a secret agent for paw patrol.” The clip quickly racked up likes and sparked an outpouring of laughter from viewers.
“Why are you touching his belongings?!” one commenter asked, while another joked: “Oooo ma’am he officially owns the house at this point cause ain’t no way he outsmart you like this.” A third added: “I bet he’s going to hide it from you now.”
Many dog owners chimed in with their own experiences, noting that pets often have a clever way of ensuring they get what they want.
“Trust me they figure it out. Especially if it’s a toy they want. So adorable,” wrote one TikTok user.
While the Cavapoo’s antics are undeniably entertaining, the video also highlights the special role toys play in a dog’s life. Beyond being fun, toys help dogs develop instincts, provide stimulation, and strengthen the bond between pets and their owners. But not all dogs instantly take to their toys, leaving many owners wondering how to spark that same enthusiasm.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) Reunite pet recovery service offers advice for helping uninterested dogs learn to love their toys.
- Training starts with small, irresistible treats.
- Place a toy on the floor and reward your dog for simply looking at it.
- Gradually, reward them for sniffing, touching, and eventually picking it up.
- Using the command “treat” during this process helps build a positive association.
Experts recommend ending play sessions while your dog is still excited, so they’re left wanting more.
Toys should also feel special—rotating them and keeping favorites hidden until playtime ensures they stay engaging.
When choosing toys, keep a dog’s natural preferences in mind. Unlike humans, dogs can’t see red, but they do perceive blue and yellow, making those colors better choices.
Plush textures appeal to their hunting instincts, interactive toys provide valuable mental exercise, and chew toys can help them wind down at the end of the day.
