A one-year-old girl has died after being hit by a freight train in the state’s north-west slopes.
The child was walking on Baranbah Street in Baan Baa, west of Armidale, on Thursday night when she was clipped by the train, NSW Police said.

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries. She died at hospital shortly after.
The freight train was driven by a 22-year-old man who was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Baan Baa is a tiny town which, at the time of the 2021 census, recorded 166 residents in 47 families.
