The New York Yankees haven’t made any big moves in free agency this offseason, but that’s going to need to change if they want to contend for the World Series again next season.
Unfortunately for the Yankees, they were recently dealt some bad news. ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that the Yankees expect free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger to sign elsewhere in free agency.
As a result, the Yankees are going to need to pivot to other stars on the open market. Bellinger is also going to need to pivot to other offers this winter, but where could he sign?
Prediction: Cody Bellinger signs a five-year deal with the Dodgers that includes deferrals
This puts the Los Angeles Dodgers in the perfect position to sign Bellinger, especially after the Chicago Cubs reportedly agreed to a deal with free agent Alex Bregman. Adding Bregman will likely take the Cubs out of the Bellinger sweepstakes.
The Dodgers need to add an outfielder to their roster after the failed experiment with Michael Conforto. Bellinger is the clear best answer for this problem.
The Dodgers have been closely linked to Kyle Tucker, but Bellinger makes a bit more sense. Bellinger is expected to be much cheaper, and he’s notably a better defender. Considering the fact that it seems like the Dodgers could afford Tucker, they certainly should be able to afford Bellinger.
