With the recent passing of Pope Francis, Conclave’s thrilling story about the election of a new pope seems more timely than ever.
Late in 2024, director Edward Berger and screenwriter Peter Straughan’s adaptation of Robert Harris’ novel Conclave became an unexpected hit, grossing an impressive $116.4 million worldwide against a $20 million budget.
Conclave was also a contender during the 2025 awards season, including a nomination for Best Picture and an Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay.
By a quirk of timing, Conclave is actually debuting on a new streaming home this week. And Watch With Us will tell you where to find it.
Where Is ‘Conclave’ Streaming?
Until recently, Conclave was streaming on Peacock. However, because of its pending move to another streamer, Conclave was unavailable to stream on the day Pope Francis passed away.
As of Tuesday, April 22, Conclave is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. For the duration of its stay on Prime Video, the film will only be available to stream on that platform. Conclave’s streaming rights will eventually revert back to Peacock, but probably not until later this year.
What Is ‘Conclave’ About?
Following the sudden death of the pope, the College of Cardinals begins the process of naming his successor. Cardinal Thomas Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is placed in charge of overseeing the election for the new pope.
The election soon becomes a referendum on the future of the Catholic church itself. Aldo Bellini (Stanley Tucci) is the progressive candidate, Joshua Adeyemi (Lucian Msamati) is the conservative candidate, Goffredo Tedesco (Sergio Castellitto) is the traditionalist, while Joseph Tremblay (John Lithgow) is the moderate of the group.
When no outright favorite immediately emerges, secrets from the candidates’ past threaten to derail the election. The potential scandals could also harm the church’s reputation at a critical moment when it desperately needs to pull together.
One way or another, there has to be a new pope. It just may not be the candidate that anyone was expecting.
Conclave is streaming on Amazon Prime Video now.
